Santo Domingo Airport, known officially as Las Américas International Airport (IATA: SDQ, ICAO: MDSD) is located near Punta Caucedo and Boca Chica, 20 miles (32 km) east of Santo Domingo City, in Republican Dominic.
The airport serves as a hub for PAWA Dominicana airline and is planned that is going to grow by 2017 with more than 15 destinations. SAP AIR is also based in SDQ airport.
Santo Domingo airport has one runway and is the largest one in all Dominican Republic and also is one of the largest one in the Caribbean. This runway is able to support an Airbus A380. The old runway has been converted as a taxiway.
In 2015, Las Américas airport handled over 3.5 million passengers with an increase of 11.80% comparing with 2014. These figures place it as the second busiest airport in the Dominican Republic after Punta Cana Airport which handles more than 6M passengers.
